"Fuck The World (Summer in London)": Brent Faiyaz⁣

Production: Brent Faiyaz, L3GION, Dpat⁣

Album: Fuck The World ⁣

When a song begins with the lyrics 'Wanna fuck the world, I'm a walking erection', it's bound to provoke some kind of reaction. Mine was laughter. Whilst I still find humour in the lyrics of this song, the more I listen to it, the more I consider it not just as an amusingly candid assertion of sexual desire, but a deliberate blurring of the lines between confidence and cruelty (e.g. 'Just 'cause I fuck you, that don't mean I trust you, I don't. / You got some high hopes'). There is a sense of recklessness running through this song that Faiyaz seems to revel in.

If I'm honest, I'm not sure I always feel entirely comfortable with its implications for the treatment of the women he mentions throughout the album. However, I do find it fascinating the way that this sense of excitement is conveyed at a laid back tempo and through such subtle production. It is this production and Faiyaz's magnetic voice that make this track feel like a quiet adrenaline rush, one that I have become unexpectedly addicted to since its release.
