"Cheers": Anderson .Paak
Production: Dr. Dre, Q-Tip & Andre Brissett
Album: Oxnard
The key to Anderson .Paak’s rise to fame is versatility. His varied occupations (singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, multi-instrumentalist) is matched only by the number of genres he is capable of reimagining.
On “Cheers” expect a little R&B, a lot of funk, and a dash of Nigerian percussion. Anderson .Paak and Q-Tip share their experiences of losing close friends, Mac Miller and Phife Dawg respectively. As this is Anderson, the mood of the track is not sombre, rather reminiscent and celebratory. It’s a poignant merger of intent and realisation, served up with the addictive grooves that makes Anderson .Paak such a compelling talent.
